Total Solar Eclipse on 12 August Traffic and Mobility Measures in Sóller and Port de Sóller
The purpose of these measures is to ensure public safety, protect natural areas, and facilitate the work of emergency services throughout this exceptional event.
Access restrictions in the Serra de Tramuntana
In general, restrictions will apply from 3:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., although they may be brought forward if traffic conditions or safety requirements make this necessary.
Expected restrictions in Sóller
During this period, access controls and temporary traffic restrictions may be implemented at the following locations:
• Monument Roundabout
• Junction of the Ma-10 and Ma-11 roads
Access controls are also expected in the neighbouring municipality of Fornalutx, specifically on the Ma-10 at kilometre point 47.500, at the junction with the Ma-2120.
Who will be allowed to enter the restricted area?
The following people and vehicles will be permitted to access the restricted area, provided they can present the appropriate documentation:
• Residents of Sóller (with ID card or proof of residence).
• Property owners within the affected area (with the relevant supporting documentation).
• Employees of businesses located within the restricted area.
• Public transport (TIB buses, taxis and VTC vehicles).
• Guests with confirmed reservations at hotels or tourist accommodation.
• Restaurant customers with a confirmed reservation and guaranteed parking.
• Emergency vehicles, scheduled medical transport and essential public services.
• Any other vehicles expressly authorised by the competent authority.
For hotel guests and restaurant customers, vehicles may only be used to drop off or pick up passengers and may not remain parked during their stay.
Special measures for boating
The Government of the Balearic Islands has also announced increased inspections, particularly in the ports of Sóller, Pollença and Andratx.
Boat operators are reminded to:
• Carry all required licences and valid documentation.
• Respect the maximum authorised number of passengers on board.
• Comply with all navigation regulations at all times.
In addition, boats that may legally be operated without a licence will not be permitted to navigate after dark, unless the skipper holds a higher-level nautical qualification.
Recommendations for visitors and residents
To help ensure the smooth running of the day, we recommend that you:
• Arrive at your chosen viewing location well in advance.
• Avoid unnecessary journeys during peak traffic hours.
• Follow all instructions issued by the police and emergency services.
The Ajuntament de Sóller thanks everyone for their cooperation and understanding regarding these temporary measures, which have been introduced to ensure everyone's safety and to help this exceptional event take place as smoothly as possible.
